One of Manchester’s youngest contemporary art galleries is lending a helping hand to artists at the start of their career by sponsoring the Emerging Artist Award at this year’s New Light Prize Exhibition.

Based in historic Castlefield in the heart of the city, Saul Hay Gallery joined Manchester’s vibrant art scene in October 2016 and exhibits both established and emerging artists from Greater Manchester and beyond. The gallery was keen to become involved with the New Light Prize Exhibition as it also identifies and celebrates the best art being produced by artists from and in the North of England.

Catherine Hay, Director of Saul Hay Gallery, said:
”We’re very excited to be sponsoring the Emerging Artist Award for the New Light Prize Exhibition. Like us, New Light is passionate about encouraging and promoting artists in the North of England – and as a fairly young gallery ourselves, it felt right to support the prize for those artists just starting out on a professional artistic career.”

Artist Mandy Payne, the 2015 winner of the Valeria Sykes Award comments:
“The ethos of the New Light Prize Exhibition to raise the profile of Northern artists is a much needed and brilliant idea. On a personal level, I have found the support I have received from the New Light organisation invaluable”. Mandy, who now regularly exhibits at the Saul Hay Gallery has kindly agreed to mentor the winner of the Emerging Artist Award.
