One of our main aims when we created New Light was to try and introduce as many people as possible to the amazing variety and quality of art being produced in the North of England today. Exhibitions are one very important way of doing that, but we do realise that the price tag of many artworks – however covetable – can exclude those on a smaller budget from experiencing the thrill of buying an original piece for their walls.

Our latest initiative hopes to change all that. ‘100 for 100’ does exactly what it says on the tin by offering 100 original pieces of art for £100 each, far less than their normal retail price. To make it even easier to buy, the exhibition is being held online so that everyone can choose and purchase their favourite work at a time that suits them, wherever they happen to be.

Not only does ‘100 for 100’ give us the chance to introduce Northern art into more homes across the country, but all proceeds are also going towards our Art for All programme enabling us to engage more people, regardless of their age or ability, with painting, drawing and printmaking – an increasingly important aim at a time when the arts are being marginalised in our schools and colleges.

Once again, we have been truly humbled by the response from the artists we approached. The quantity and quality of art which they have donated has been fantastic and makes for some very tempting viewing with works from a Royal Academician, past New Light Prize-winners and artists whose works feature in public and private collections both in this country and overseas. Do take a look here before the sale begins at 9am on Friday 18 November.

Don’t be late as once a work’s gone, it’s gone!
