A record crowd attended New Lights Private View at Swinton Park on Thursday 26th June with over 100 people visiting the luxury castle hotel to take a look at  the work of some of the North’s most respected contemporary artists, while also enjoying musical entertainment from the voice of Yorkshire’s Grand Depart: Alistair Griffin.

The artists on display had been chosen to show the range and quality of work currently being produced in northern England today and included Manchester-based figurative artist Mark Demsteader, perhaps best known for his portraits of the model Erin O’Connor, the actress Emma Watson and the ballet dancer Marianela Núñez; acclaimed landscape painter James Naughton; Debbie Loane, owner and founder of the Lund Gallery in Easingwold; printmaker Hester Cox; and Emerson Mayes who has won a number of awards for his work which combines his love of the landscape and the wildlife that inhabits it. They were joined by up-and-coming young artist, Chloë Holt, whose latest work was displayed in the bar area.

If you missed the Private View, there is still a chance to catch the Exhibition which will be on display at Swinton Park until 18th July. All works are for sale, with 40% of the proceeds going towards New Lights’ Art for All work which seeks to bring an appreciation of contemporary art to those with little or no access to visual arts, particularly primary schoolchildren in the region.
