We are pleased to announce the winner of the Visitors’ Choice Award at The Mercer Gallery as ‘Portrait of T.C.’ by Steven Lawler. The award, which is presented at each gallery where the New Light Exhibition is showing, is selected by visitors who are asked to choose their favourite piece on display. Sponsored by marketing agency tig, the winner of the award receives marketing materials which can be used to further promote their work.

Originally from Manchester, Steve Lawler now lives and works in West Yorkshire. He is a realist painter although the content of his figurative work stems as much from his imagination as it does from his models. His work ‘Portrait of T.C.’ is an oil painting on canvas.

The second most popular piece as selected by gallery visitors was ‘Clearing (ii)’ by Alan Stones with third place going to Paul Lewin’s ‘Penhale Point’.

Works from 61 short-listed artists are on display at The Mercer with artists represented from County Durham, Cumbria, Lancashire, Teeside, Tyne & Wear and Yorkshire. The range of art on show includes paintings, prints, sculpture and mixed media.

If you haven’t yet managed to see the New Light Exhibition you still have time. It is on display at The Mercer Gallery until 12 June before a selection of works from short-listed artists will be showing at Panter & Hall on Pall Mall, London from 27 June.
