There are many highlights whilst the New Light Prize Exhibition is on its year-long tour – but some of the lasting memories always come from the ‘Art for All’ workshops we run alongside the exhibition, and Huddersfield was no exception!

Working alongside experienced tutor and artist Helen Peyton, our ‘Family Printmaking Workshop’ gave parents and children alike the chance to get their hands dirty and produce a series of prints using the Prize Exhibition as a starting point. The workshop was brimming with people of all ages and all abilities eager to get their fingers inky and their creative juices flowing.

Always popular are our ‘Life Drawing Workshops’ and Huddersfield Art Gallery were kind enough to let us use the actual gallery as a pop-up life drawing studio… a great privilege indeed! Again, Helen Peyton’s relaxed, but knowledgeable, way of working proved a hit – with many of those attending expressing an interest in joining local life drawing sessions. There was even whispers that it was better than the Royal Academy classes… something to make our heads swell ever so little!

Seeing children and adults leave our workshops with armfuls of work, smiles on their faces and an artistic urge inspired is always something that will make all the hard work worthwhile!
