Odd years mean one thing within New Light: it’s time for our next biennial Prize Exhibition. This year, we’re delighted to announce that it will be held at the magnificent Bowes Museum in County Durham.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 17th October, with the Private View and judging taking place on the evening before. This is when the prestigious £10,000 Valeria Sykes Prize will be awarded to the artist whose work has been selected as the best on show. The shortlisted paintings and prints, including the winning work, will be available to buy in the exhibition.

Having previously focused on emerging artists, this is the first time that the Valeria Sykes Prize will be open to all artists producing wall-hung art and with a connection to the North of England (by birth, degree study or residence). Please contact us if you would like to find out more.

To coincide with the exhibition, we will also be running an innovative Art for All project with a local school, as well as hosting workshops and talks for adults interested in acquiring or refining an art-based skill or simply learning more about buying art.
