My work is a response to the romantic landscape paintings of the Masters, using traditional materials, compositions, and subjects.
I play with the viewer’s sense of bucolic nostalgia and create a visceral dissonance, depicting contemporary forms ensuring that the subject is pertinent for today.
Apart from humanity’s obvious technological advancements – my work is also inspired by another hugely pivotal development. Society has recently passed an important juncture, one where a nostalgic eye was once able to peer back to a period lived in climatic equilibrium. We now find ourselves looking aghast at life with the horror of climate change, increasingly paralysed by fear and running out of hope.
It is my intention to offer a sense of optimism, so that subsequent generations may have a future here on Earth.
