Born and brought up in Newcastle I left the North East for University and then during my professional career. I have painted and drawn all my life but having now retired I am focussing on my art attending studies at the Royal Drawing School and Heatherleys art schools in London. As a figurative artist I mainly work in traditional media of oils and charcoal/pastel preferably from life. My work ranges from portrait, through landscape and still life and I am influenced by modern British artists including Freud, Uglow and Spencer. In all my work I am aiming to achieve an energy and vibrancy through use of light and shade, selective composition, careful observation and colour harmony – hopefully to achieve a rich, atmospheric and interesting image.
