Since graduating from St. Martin’s School of Art, London in 1971 I have worked full-time as an artist making paintings, drawings and original prints. I live and work in the fellside hamlet of Blencarn in the Cumbrian North Pennines, painting (in oils) most days but, over the years, I have also made some 140 editions of lithographs.
I have exhibited widely including UK wide touring solo exhibitions, a three month residency on the Falkland Islands and, quite recently, three different large solo exhibitions in public galleries in Cumbria as well as work in each New Light Art Prize Exhibition since 2015.
Five years ago I became a Patron of Printfest – the superb artist-led annual printmaking festival based in Ulverston, Cumbria.
I hope my painting ‘Hotel du Monde’ successfully carries my feelings of wonder at the lives of others – the depiction of imagined private lives with fleeting and indistinct events in small simple rooms . . . making for exciting visual arenas.
