Born in St Albans in 1967, Anna Ketskemety initially studied Architecture before graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Liverpool John Moores University in 1997. She has remained in Liverpool and currently works from her studio at home. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. She was awarded First Prize at West Lancashire Open in 2015.
Ketskemety is interested in the relationship between object and painted surface, often using found objects as strata for her paintings. Working in acrylics, she is concerned with space, light and the subtleties of colour to convey atmosphere. The explicit use of personal photography as source material raises questions about authenticity, objectivity, capture and permanence.
In her portraits she refers to the domestic spaces and objects within them that shape us. Her subjects are framed within ordinariness and seeming mundanity but the two-dimensional repetition of everyday domestic habits in fact alludes to the deeper four-dimensional experience of our lives
Ketskemety was included in Refractive Pool: Contemporary Painting in Liverpool, an exhibition at Walker Art Gallery in 2022 as well as the accompanying publication.
