Description

Screenprint on arches deckle edge paper, edition of 10
57cm x 76cm

Richard Gowland is a practicing artist, working primarily in oil painting and silk screen printing.

The artist subjects are psychological and philosophical in their examination of mental health conditions and ultimately our fate., as we traverse life we encounter difficulties and disappointments as well as working towards resolutions through artistic fulfillment.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder, or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition, where a person perceives flaws in their own reflection, unnoticeable by others, but may trouble the recipient so much that it may lead to cosmetic surgery.

The screenprint ‘Body Dysmorphic Disorder ‘ is originally a drawing, the female nude drawn from a print by A. Vignola, c1900. Positioned in front of a nineteenth century mirror frame. the composition has been conceptually torn and subsequently reassembled. The drawing which has been converted to a silkscreen print with two colour separations, each and every print has been hand pulled by the artist on Arches deckle edge paper.

At every stage the artist has complete control of colour and contrast and finally quality control.
