Nat Quinn was the first Winner of the Valeria Sykes Award at the inaugural New Light Open Exhibition in 2011. As William Tillyer, one of the judges, commented: “Nat Quinn is the recipient of the prize because, as he states, his work is an amalgam of ‘contradiction, excavation, preservation, reality, and distortion’. All these words pertain to our times today. For me, this is where the concerns for painting should be in the early 21st century.”
