Vessel and Time

Description

Unique Bronze
2023

The medium I work in is bronze and whilst intrigued by its traditionally masculine and ‘heavy’ associations, I use it to create highly textured yet deceptively delicate sensual pieces.

Employing the ‘lost wax’ technique means that materials which burn or melt can be used and by adding a vacuum to the casting process I can force the molten metal into the fine detail I need.

I often return to the motif of a simple boat as a starting point, it represents new horizons, adventure, sanctuary and protection and the concept of time & shelter. Reminiscent of a seed pod, womb like, or containing dramatic linear construction contrasting with the natural curves.

My bronze sculptures bring out the emotion of the strange, surreal, stark beauty of nature, celebrate natural forms, colours and textures, treasure the landscape, find beauty by our feet, capture moments in time.
