Portraits using charcoal & sandpaper
In the morning, Mick will demonstrate drawing a portrait from life in charcoal. Showcasing an experimental technique, peculiar to Mick, that employs a novel use for sandpaper.
Demonstration: 10.30am – 12.30pm
In the afternoon workshop, Mick will initially lead participants through a number of exercises that (re)introduce time-honoured techniques to achieve correct proportion, and capture the likeness of the sitter. Participants will then put those techniques into practice, as they tackle drawing a portrait in charcoal, (with or without sandpaper)!
Workshop: 1.15pm – 3.45pm
(Maximum 16 people. Booking is essential)
What to bring:
- Several sheets of A3 or A2 cartridge paper.
- A drawing board.
- Vine or willow charcoal.
- Putty rubber.

Materials can be provided. An optional contribution of £3 per person to cover costs would be welcome. Please advise when booking.
