Living in Killinghall close to Harrogate, I recently took the leap in 2021 to set up a studio in the town centre to focus on my painting and also to teach teenagers in North Yorkshire. I enjoy depicting and teaching figurative work with particular emphasis in portraiture using traditional oil painting techniques, charcoal, chalk, pen and pencil.
I originally studied and worked as a musician but from an early age I was surrounded by artists which led to my continuing interest and passion in figurative drawing and painting. Early mentoring came from Will Roberts, Gyorgy Gordon and latterly Andres Jaroslavsky.
The painting Look Away submitted to the exhibition was painted alla prima – in one sitting.
