A life amongst horses and the natural world has informed my work. As with most artists, a subject evolves from fascination, instinct and intrigue. As a child, all I wanted to be was a horse so I started drawing them instead. My chosen media is expressive and reflects the temperament of my subject. Through mixing drawing and painting materials with collage, I am building the horse from the inside out in a quest to flesh out bone with paper and paint. Through my time as Artist in Residence at the Department of Veterinary Science at Liverpool University, I was able to understand what lies beneath these magnificent beasts as I could to sketch freely during operations and post mortems. I have exhibited widely showing work at the Royal Academy of Art, London as well as internationally at galleries in America and Dubai. I live and work in rural Lancashire where the wild landscape influences my painting and often appears in some shape or form amongst my horses.
